A man on a desert island...

A man is stranded on a desert island, all alone for ten years. One day, he sees a speck in the horizon. He thinks to himself, "It's not a ship." The speck gets a little closer and he thinks, "It's not a boat." The speck gets even closer and he thinks, "It's not a raft."

Then, out of the surf comes this gorgeous blonde woman, wearing a wet suit and scuba gear. She comes up to the guy and she says, "How long has it been since you've had a cigarette?"

    "Ten years!" he says.

She reaches over, unzips a waterproof pocket on her left sleeve and pulls out a pack of fresh cigarettes. He takes one, lights it, takes a long drag and says, "Man, oh man! Is that good!"

Then she asks, "How long has it been since you've had a drink of whiskey?"

    He replies, "Ten years!"

She reaches over, unzips her waterproof pocket on the right, pulls out a flask and gives it to him. He takes a long swig and says, "Wow, that's fantastic!"

Then she starts unzipping this long zipper that runs down the front of her wet suit and she says to him, "And how long has it been since you've had some REAL fun?"

And the man replies, "My God! Don't tell me you've got a motorcycle in there!"

    October overnight ride/camp

The date is set for October 22nd for the Marauders overnight trip to Mohican State Park. This will be an overnight stay in the campgrounds, so tents are the order for the day.

We will depart Liberty HD South at 10:30 am and take the back roads to the park in Loudenville (about an hour). Bring your overnight gear. I am sure we will eat lunch on the road, as well as a late breakfast on Sunday. Any other goodies for in-camp is up to you. The trip is based on weather, of course.

Please email me at chris@media-techconsulting.com if you plan to go. Non-riders are certainly welcome to join the pack in their gas-guzzelers :)

From Akron... home to many a fine bike tire...

A gold star by Adrienna's name for discovering our loose knit group's title change. The "gang" is growing beyond just those who work here at White Hat, so this is a natural progression.

    Ride on Rubber City Marauders!

    Russian Festival

Our next Marauders outing will be a ride to the Russian Festival at St. Nicolas in Mogodore the evening of October 4th (rain date October 5th). Lori is the co-chair of this event and the whole reason to go is the FOOD!

We will meet at Chapel Hill Mall in the parking lot of the Eat-N-Park at 6:00 pm and ride out together. Please let me know who is going by emailing me. You folks in cars are welcome too :)

    Ride Safe,
    Chris

    Ebay items for bikers

For those of you who are interested, I have a couple bike items up on ebay.

I am reselling a sissy bar bag that turned out to not fit my bike right. It is brand new.

I am also starting to sell motorcycle leather goods (jackets, bags, boots) for a wholesaler. Here is the first listing to see how the stuff sells.

    Ride on,
    Chris

    Bike Nite at Quaker Steak

Before they wrap up for the season, another trip to Bike Nite at Quaker Steak and Lube in Valley View is due. For those riding up from Akron (on bikes or the more traditional transportation), we will meet in the parking lot of the McDonalds on River Road in the Cuyahoga Valley between 6:15 and 6:30 pm.

For those of you going direct, we should meet at QS around 7-ish. A good place to gather will be the slope behind the restaurant where you can see all the bikes come in.

Of course, this is subject to weather. If you have any questions, drop me an email or call my cell Wednesday night: 330-620-2311.

    Let there be light

Today, I received the LED kit for my "under the tank" accent lights (yes...now I am LUCKY). I am not 100% sure, but I don't think these were made in the US of A. Here is exactly what the back of the package reads in ENGLISH (along with my observations):

    FEATURES
    • Just sticking on len of clear surface of head light or rear light. What is a "len"?

    • Vibrant head light/rear light is available. For parties and bar mitzvahs!

    INSTALLATION

    • Clean the surface of len from dust, oil, and other debris before sticking this lamp. Stick this lamp where the len don't shine!

    • Peel off the cover sheet of tape and stick strongly on the len of head light or rear light. Maybe Tazan wrote this...

    • Join the clear cord with body earth (-). Connect the clear/white cord to small lamp (+). I think they mean GROUND, not earth. Maybe I'm wrong. Or should I say, "I'm not correctly."

    NOTICE

    • Opening & reassembling product is prohibited. As well as an open container on a watercraft!

    • Do not make mistake for joining of (+) and (-) terminal. For you will burn them out.

    • For getting effective fixation. Do not touch the double adhesive tape within 24 hour after sticking. Are we still talking about the len, or have we now moved on to a different catagory of product?

    • Do not place this product on leather or cotton or uneven surface. It will easily get detachment. Or a nasty rash.

    • Detachment of this product can damage the len of light. Please do it patiently. Not to mention the expensive paint job on your bike. But let's not take away from the importance of the len.

    • Repairing or cutting wire is dangerious. And not nearly as fun as sticking your tongue on the battery posts.

I am certainly glad to see that communication between fellow bikers crosses all language barriers!

    Ride safe,
    Chris

    Marauders Breakfast

The next Marauders Breakfast will be on September 25th at 9:30 am. Same place, Liberty Grill (Liberty HD South). There will be a ride following the intake of greasy food.

As always, you don't have to have a bike to come for breakfast. Click on the "comments" link below in the blog to let us know if you are going to attend.

We will also be planning our October over-nighter.

    Overnight ride planning for mid-October

During our last breakfast, we discussed having an overnight ride to somewhere we can camp with our bivys and bags (just what you can carry on your bike). Mid-October looks good, if not brisk. One suggestion is Mohican State Park down near Loudenville. They have primative camp sites.

Please give this some thought and let's make some plans at a breakfast ride the last weekend in September.

    Calling all riders!

I received an invitation in the mail from Liberty Harley-Davidson for a motorcycle ride. The ride benefits the American Red Cross. I know some of you may have already made your donation to help those that have been affected by Hurricane Katrina, but this event is a great way to help and have a good time at the same time. Here are the specifics:

    What: Ride for the Red
    When: September 18, 2005 1pm
Where: Starts at the Red Cross building at 501 West Market Street parade style and winds thru the Cuyahoga Valley ending at the Porthouse Theater
    How Much: $20/rider, $30 couple

Free Food, Free T's and Live Music

Let's get the group together to go out and show our support. Besides, it is a good excuse to get out and ride while we still have time.

    Ride on...ride safe

CB450 may be on the way out

So the work continues. The CB450 still won't run right. Even after the new gas, yadda yadda.

While pushing it home several blocks today (again!), I passed by a fellow working in his yard. Turns out, he was a certified technician with Rick Case (when Rick Case sold bikes). He has worked on tons of Hondas. After a brief inspection, he gave me the low down:

Valve cover seal leaking bad and probably the head gasket too (there is gas in the oil). Carbs are way out of adjustment as well. "Boy", I said, "how much would you charge me to fix this thing?"

In the process of talking out the maintenance deal, he mentioned that it is really a collector's item and he knew of several people who would give me a $1000.00 right now (not bad considering what I paid and have only put a bit into it since then). A friend of his would definitely be interested and he owns a bike shop out in Ravenna.

The wheels started turning (in my head, not on the CB) as I looked at what is becoming more of a project than I thought. All I want is a nice, easy, good running, starter bike for Lori. The CB is turning out to not fit that bill.

Now, I hate to admit defeat as I am well known for making killer deals when I get a burr in my saddle to do something. All is not lost yet. The shop owner in Ravenna and I will be talking about the CB and how we might trade this "exquisite vintage collectors bike" in for something along the lines of a mid-80s Rebel that is turn-key ready.

    Stay tuned...

    Sunday chow and ride

The weather looks better than last Sunday, so we are off to Liberty Grill at 9:30 am for the usual grease and off on the road for the usual two-wheeled mayhem! I plan to have some sort of trip set up as long as the weather holds.
